Privacy Policy
The short version. Plotloft is built to collect as little about you as possible. Your manuscripts never leave your device — the app has no account, no login, no analytics, no telemetry, and never phones home. The only personal data we ever handle is the name and email address from your purchase (so we can send you your licence key) and, if you choose to give it, an email address for our launch list. That's it.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Plotloft ("we", "us") collects, why, and what your rights are. We are the data controller for the limited data described here. If you have any questions, email privacy@plotloft.com.
1. What the app does not collect
We want to be loud about this, because it's the whole point of Plotloft:
- No account and no sign-up. You never create a login to use Plotloft.
- No manuscripts. Everything you write — stories, outlines, characters, notes — is saved as files on your own computer. We do not upload, store, read, analyse, or train anything on your work.
- No telemetry or analytics inside the app. The desktop app does not track how you use it and sends us no usage data.
- No phone-home licensing. Your licence key is verified locally on your device. Activation does not contact any server and there is no machine-tracking or expiry. (More on how licensing works in our Licence Agreement.)
2. What we do collect, and why
When you buy Plotloft
Purchases are handled by our reseller Paddle, the Merchant of
Record. Paddle collects your payment and billing details directly — we
never see or store your card number. Paddle passes us the
name and email address on the order so that we can generate your
licence key and email it to you. We use these details only to fulfil and support
your purchase.

We send your licence key by email using Resend, an email
delivery service. Your email address is processed to send that message (and any
necessary follow-up about your purchase).

Our launch / newsletter list (optional)
If you enter your email address into the "get notified" form on our website, we
add it to our announcement list, run by MailerLite. We use it only
to email you about Plotloft (launch, updates). You can unsubscribe at any time using
the link in any email, and we'll delete you from the list.

When you contact us
If you email us for support, we receive your email address and whatever you put
in your message, and we keep that correspondence so we can help you and keep a
record of the issue.

Our website
Our website is hosted on Cloudflare. Like most web infrastructure, Cloudflare processes basic technical request data (such as your IP address) to serve the site securely and protect against abuse. We do not run advertising or analytics trackers on the site, and we do not use tracking cookies. The web demo runs entirely in your browser — anything you type into it stays in your browser's memory and is never saved to any server.
3. Who processes data on our behalf
We keep the list of companies we rely on short and name them all here:

Some of these providers are based in, or process data in, the United States or other countries outside your own. Where personal data is transferred internationally, it is protected by appropriate safeguards (such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses) as offered by each provider under their own compliance programmes.
4. How long we keep it
- Purchase records (name, email, order reference): kept while your licence is active and for as long as we need them for support, tax, and accounting obligations, then deleted or anonymised.
- Newsletter email: kept until you unsubscribe.
- Support emails: kept only as long as needed to resolve and reference the issue.
5. Your rights
Depending on where you live (and in particular under the EU/UK GDPR), you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data erased;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time (for the newsletter, just unsubscribe); and
- lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We are established in Spain, so our supervisory authority is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es) — but you may also complain to the authority where you live.
To exercise any of these, email privacy@plotloft.com and we'll take care of it. Because we hold so little, most requests are quick to honour.
6. Cookies
The desktop app uses no cookies. Our website uses no advertising or analytics cookies. If you submit the newsletter form, MailerLite may set a functional cookie needed to process that submission. That's the extent of it.
7. Children
Plotloft is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with an updated effective date. If a change is significant, we'll do our best to flag it clearly.
